tough cookie

My little sister Kari has always been one of my most favorite people on earth for a number of reasons -- too many to jot down on this blog. I guess you could say she is a pretty amazing girl, and the older we get I feel as if she is the one who teaches me about "life" when it used to be the big sister who taught the little sister the ways of the world. But Kari has never been one to follow, she has always created her own path.

This past month she was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes -- which was devastating news to hear, but she didn't let that get her down for long. In fact she had been planning a trip to the Grand Canyon with friends, and her doctor advised her not to go. All this news came about a week before they were to leave. Well Kari mangaged to learn as much as she could about this disorder, learned to give herself shots in the stomach, pricks in the hand, and changed an entire diet...........and yes she hiked the Canyon, and came home with some pretty great memories to share.
